Over 160 of Australia’s elite road cyclists will take on the challenge this year of the Goulburn to Citi race. The race covers 170 km from Goulburn to Camden and include notorious climbs over the Razorback range. The Goulburn to Sydney Cycle Race Classic was first run in 1902, making it the oldest road race in NSW and one year older than the ‘Tour de France. The high profile Drapac Porsche Team has confirmed as starters. Stephen Roberts, CEO of Citi Markets & Banking in Australia, said “We are extremely proud to support this famous race and the charities associated with the ride.” Simon Poidevin, race ambassador, rugby great, and a managing director of Citi, said, “Citi has a great tradition of supporting the community and encouraging employees to get involved. This event is a great mix of sport, local communities and prominent charities. We throw down the gauntlet to the financial services industry and Australian corporates to enter a team into the charity ride.”

The key criteria for entry is a contribution of $25,000 to participating charities. Charity teams will consist of a maximum of ten riders capable of cycling 150 kms at an average speed of 32 kms per hour.

The principle charity is Odyssey House, one of Australia’s largest and most successful rehabilitation centres for people struggling with drug and alcohol misuse. Other charities involved include the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation, children’s hospice Bear Cottage and the Goulburn District Community Palliative Care and Oncology Support Group.

Three of Australia’s great cyclists, Olympic gold medalists Ryan Bayley and Stephen Woolridge, as well Chris Sutton, who rides for the French-based Pro Team Cofidis will join 90 guests at today’s launch in Sydney.
