Maintaining Aluminium Frames |
|
|
|
- Clean and wash your frame regularly, to remove sweat and or
sports drinks from the paint work, as these can help cause corrosion to
set in from the outside of the frame, especially "Coca Cola" which is
acidic. Clean around the tight areas of the frame like cable guides and
derailleur mounts. This is where corrosion can easily start in those
hard to get to areas. This applys especially to heavy sweaters and
triathletes because swimming in salt water and sweating on your frame
can lead to corrosion and paint flaking off, if it is not removed from
the paint surface. I have seen some shocking results of this over the
years and you are not covered by warranty for this.
- With
alloy frames we suggest you periodically check them for fatigue.
Fatigue can happen to any alloy frame irrespective of the manufacturer,
as alloy doesn't have the same life as steel. Most high end
manufacturer's will give 2 years warranty for alloy frames.
