Illawarra Cycle Club - Home of Cycle Racing in the Illawarra

Illawarra Cylce ClubThe Illawarra Cycle Club is located in Wollongong on the South Coast of New South Wales Australia. The Club holds Road Cycle Race meetings almost every week of the year. During the Summer, Velodrome Racing is also promoted at the Unanderra Velodrome on the Princes Highway.

The Club is for participants for all levels. There is no need to be Robbie McEwen or Cadel Evans on the first day you come out to the Club. We have 4 Grades ranging from those that are there to compete and attain the highest level in the sport, to those that are out for some fitness and enjoy the social aspect of the day.

Illawarra Cycle Club - Track & Road RacingAll the members of the Club will welcome new riders and assist new members with various aspects of racing whether it be on the Velodrome at Unanderra or out on the Road course at West Dapto (Avondale Rd). Several riders have ridden at international level and have much advice and experience to pass on to those aspiring to dothe same and to those that want to be able to ride better at Club level.

So if you have a bike, enjoy riding it, enjoy talking to people, and perhaps would like to try a little competition in a friendly environment, come along and join in the fun.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick email to let you in on something. As of tonight, my website has been launched in an attempt to keep you all informed as to what I am doing, and how I am doing! I have been in Australia for my off season for the past month, and have taken the time to put ideas into action through TX25 Website and Hosting. (in other words, I haven't had much of a holiday, trying to finish the site off before my return overseas in little over a week!)

Weekend Racing 21 - 23 November

This weeks racing commences with week 5 of the summer Track racing series.Unfortunately last weeks racing was washed out right on start time with that massive storm. Riders were primed a week out from a successful State open at Unanderra Veledrome.Members with current form include Bridget Mullany, Sam Arnold, Phillip Mullany and Bradley Heffernan. These Junior athletes are looking to extend that form this Friday night.

In the seniors, Winter track racing specialist Keiren Heffernan is looking extremely sharp after a successful campaign at the Central coast Open last weekend. Others to watch include Merrick Law and ICC open Winner Mitch Law. The Debut of TW riders and Paul Oyston who is taking to the banks well should also be another highlight of the evening.

Special thanks goes to Verdi's House of Fine Foods for supporting the feature race tonight. Organizers are expecting a big turn out for the first handicap of the season along with serious duel's in the 30 lap scratch race. This will be for A & B Grade.Grab your track bikes, Polish those wheels and head down to Unanderra for some super action. Cheer on your Club mates tonight too success as handlers will also be required for the Feature Handicap.Racing begins at 7pm.

Road racing continues on Sunday with Huntley road once again the focus of the Group Handicap. With A grade chasing B, C, D it will be interesting to see the results as each bunch tries their best to stay out front.Time gaps and gradings are critical to a fantastic last few Kilometre's. Last summers second Group handicap race was action plus as the time gaps were made more realistic and everyone had a chance to take out the race victory in 'final'. Commitment is needed in each Group with smoothness and efficiency being the key to fast racing. Stalling tactics will see the fastest Grades sweep through and take the spoils.

Racing commences at 8.30. Sign On completed by 8.15am.

Good luck to all Competitors. Race hard, race fast and be safe.

14 November 2008 - 2008 In Review for Joey

Just a quick update from SA to let you know what's been going on lately! I've been feeling strong on the bike, although I'm also starting to feel the effects of a long year of racing, moving, living by myself, and racing a bit more.. From a cycling perspective, I am at my very peak right now, riding better than I ever have, and it is an awesome feeling while it lasts! I can feel now, that my form is starting to take a slow dip, as my body starts thinking "no more".

Johnny Warren Jamberoo Classic
4 January 2009

The Johnny Warren Jamberoo Classic started from humble beginnings in 2003 when SBS sports presenter Michael Tomalaris gathered a group of riders to film a segment for the Cycling Central show.

The segment focused on the joys of cycling socially in a group and enjoying the sights and camaraderie along the way.

The village of Jamberoo, situated on the NSW south coast, was nominated as the finishing point simply because the SBS crew were friends with former Socceroo captain Johnny Warren whose family owns the historic Jamberoo Park - and it seemed a fitting place to unwind after 100 kilometres of riding.

Number have steadily grown in the ensuing years. In 2008, more than 250 riders lined up for the start in the southern Sydney suburb of Loftus. In this year, it raised over $10,000 for the Sydney Cancer Centre, the highest for this event.

For further information on joining the ride, please visit the Johnny Warren Jamberoo Classic website.
